# Limit user access to assets

You can configure the application to limit each user's access to only the assets that are assigned to them.

1. In the navigation pane, select <img src="/files/dLHka5YWbUR3zisHLua6" alt="Settings icon" data-size="line"> **Settings** > **Account Management**.&#x20;
2. Expand the appropriate account and module, and then click **Manage** in the **Collections** tile. The list of collections is displayed.
3. For the **People** collection, click <i class="fa-ellipsis-vertical">:ellipsis-vertical:</i> and then select **Link to users**.
4. Click the **People** link to display the collection. The **Link to user** field is displayed in the collection.
5. Select each employee whose access you want to limit. The users details are displayed in the details pane.
6. Select **Link to user**, and then select the user account to link to the employee.
7. In the navigation pane, select <img src="/files/dLHka5YWbUR3zisHLua6" alt="Settings icon" data-size="line"> **Settings** > **Roles & Permissions**.&#x20;
8. [Create a custom user role](/settings/roles-and-permissions.md#create-a-custom-role) to define the tasks you want the employees to be able to perform. In the custom role, create a filter to limit the records the user can view:
   1. Click <i class="fa-filter">:filter:</i> under **Limit record permissions**.&#x20;
   2. Select the **Collection** whose records you want to filter.
   3. For **Field**, select **Assigned To** (or the field the system is pulling from to assign the asset to a user).&#x20;
   4. Set **Value** to **Current User**.
   5. Click **Apply**.
